Serial entrepreneur Jesse Pujji is bringing Gateway X’s first Founder Fellowship to St. Louis this fall, investing $500,000 upfront in a small cohort of founders – and challenging one of the startup world’s most persistent assumptions along the way.
A major new opportunity for tech innovators is launching in St. Louis in September.
Gateway X, led by serial entrepreneur Jesse Pujji, has opened applications for its inaugural Founder Fellowship, a 12-week company-building program running in St. Louis this fall.
The program will invest $500,000 on a $5 million SAFE cap into each selected company, with a guaranteed additional $500,000 follow-on investment if the company reaches $2 million in revenue or $200,000 in run-rate profit within its first two years.
But Gateway X is making a larger bet than simply launching another accelerator.
A different model for startup growth
Gateway X is built around a philosophy Pujji calls seedstrapping: raise one meaningful round of capital, build a profitable company, then grow on your own terms.
It is positioned as an alternative to the traditional startup binary of repeatedly raising venture capital to pursue hypergrowth or bootstrapping a smaller business with limited outside investment.
Gateway X’s goal is more direct: be a founder’s first and last round.
That philosophy reflects Pujji’s own experience building and selling companies, including the eight-figure exit of Ampush. Since then, he has helped build multiple companies through Gateway X, including GrowthAssistant and Aux Insights, while developing an operating model centered on entrepreneurship, personal development, disciplined growth and long-term profitability.
Now Gateway X is turning those lessons into a formal fellowship for a new generation of founders. The model focuses heavily on commercial execution rather than fundraising.
More company building, less Demo Day
The inaugural cohort is highly competitive, including no more than five companies, allowing Gateway X to work closely with each founder.
During the fellowship, the team will help founders strengthen go-to-market strategy, acquire customers, make critical hires, improve operations and technology, and establish a clear path toward profitability.
Leadership coaching is also a central part of the model. The objective is not simply to make companies more attractive to investors.
It is to help them become strong enough that they may not need another investor.
Gateway X is particularly interested in AI-native service companies and businesses helping marketers use LLMs, although founders and companies across categories are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should be pre-funding but already have a clear problem, solution and target customer.
Why this matters for St. Louis

Gateway X introduces another option: meaningful early capital combined with intensive operating support and an explicit focus on building a profitable company.
The timing is also significant. Artificial intelligence is rapidly reducing the cost of developing products, automating operations and delivering sophisticated services. Smaller teams can increasingly build companies that once required significantly more capital and headcount.
Gateway X is betting that this shift creates a much larger opportunity for capital-efficient, founder-led companies.
And St. Louis will be one of the first places where that thesis is put into practice.
